La Paterne is made by Antoine Sanzay, seventh generation of his family to farm vines in Varrains and now overseeing 11 hectares of prime Saumur-Champigny terroir, including the celebrated Les Poyeux lieu-dit. This Cabernet Franc comes from four hectares planted in 1985 across Varrains, Chace and Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, farmed organically.
Fermented with native yeasts and matured nine months in concrete, unfiltered and unfined, the wine shows youthful purple color and seductive black cherry fruit, with a soft, opulent texture and ripe tannins. It is a polished, terroir-driven expression of one of the Loire’s best red wine appellations.
