Description

2013 Domaine Tempier Tourtine: Monumental Bandol Mourvèdre

The 2013 Domaine Tempier Tourtine Bandol Rouge 750ml represents the absolute pinnacle of Provençal fine wine. In particular, the Tourtine parcel occupies a windy limestone amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, yielding Mourvèdre of massive depth. In addition, the cool and balanced 2013 harvest produced fruit with superb structural tension, energetic acidity, and cellar resilience.

Tasting Notes for 2013 Domaine Tempier Tourtine

The wine opens with powerful aromas of ripe blackberry, wild game, leather, black olive, and garrigue earth. Furthermore, subtle hints of dark chocolate, lavender, and iron minerality develop with time in the decanter. On the palate, robust, chalky tannins coat the mouth with rich dark fruits and savory spice. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound length, stony cut, and noble rustic grace.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Tempier is universally acknowledged as the spiritual heart and global benchmark of Bandol. Specifically, Lucien Peyraud and his wife Lulu revitalized the historic property in the 1940s and successfully championed Bandol’s official AOC status. Moreover, Tempier was among the earliest estates in the south of France to bottle single-vineyard cuvées.

Today, the estate continues its biodynamic practices under the stewardship of the Peyraud family and their winemaking team. As a result, La Tourtine continues to set the gold standard for age-worthy, complex Mourvèdre.
