Description

2011 Château Montrose: Classic Saint-Estèphe Power and Longevity

The 2011 Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe Rouge 750ml exemplifies the classical strength and density of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. In particular, this famed second-growth estate sits right along the Gironde estuary on deep gravel over clay soils. In addition, the rigorous 2011 vintage rewarded terroir of elite quality, producing a wine with exceptional structure and savory drive.

Tasting Notes for 2011 Château Montrose

The wine opens with commanding aromas of crème de cassis, blackberry, crushed graphite, cigar wrapper, and violets. Furthermore, nuanced notes of espresso, damp earth, and toasted oak develop with decanting. On the palate, muscular, tightly woven tannins frame a concentrated core of dark brambly fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with immense grip, stony minerality, and aristocratic precision.

Estate History and Heritage

Château Montrose traces its origins to 1815 when Étienne Théodore Dumoulin cleared heather-covered hillsides to plant vines. Specifically, the estate earned second-growth status in the landmark 1855 classification just forty years after its establishment. Moreover, the property underwent a massive modern renaissance following its acquisition by Martin and Olivier Bouygues in 2006.

Today, Montrose combines state-of-the-art green cellar architecture with legendary terroir. As a result, this 2011 release remains a classic monument of ageworthy Médoc craftsmanship.
