Description

Overview & Provenance

The 2017 Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie is an opulent, highly rated single-vineyard Syrah from the Côte Blonde. Co-fermented with approximately 11% Viognier from ancient vines planted on warm schist and limestone terraces, this wine is celebrated for its seductive charm. Consequently, it combines rich fruit concentration with haunting floral aromatics.

The warm 2017 growing season yielded concentrated grapes with ripe skins and sweet, velvety tannins. In addition, 40 months of aging in new French oak barrels built incredible structural depth and polish. Therefore, this bottle provides an exotic, multidimensional tasting experience with immense aging power.

Tasting Profile & Sensory Character

  • Aromatics: First, the nose offers scents of crème de cassis, black cherry, and fresh violets. Soon after, rich notes of espresso, toasted vanilla, smoked meats, Asian spice, and crushed graphite develop with air.
  • Palate: In addition, the palate feels expansive, broad, and deeply layered with velvet tannins. Ripe black fruit and floral spice lead to an aristocratic, lingering finish.

Service & Culinary Pairings

Serving Suggestions: First, serve at 60°F–64°F (16°C–18°C) in large stemware. Next, decant for 45 to 60 minutes to allow the layers of fruit and spice to harmonize.

Recommended Pairings: Because of its concentrated fruit and smooth tannins, this vintage matches hearty meats:

  • Roasted rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Grilled prime ribeye steak with truffle butter
  • Slow-braised beef short ribs with creamy polenta
  • Roast duck breast with cherry reduction

Collector Notes & Cellar Potential

The 2017 La Mouline is a modern classic with high critical acclaim. Entering the first stage of its drinking window, it possesses the balance to cellar gracefully through 2045.
