Description

Overview & Provenance

The 2014 Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie is an aromatic, chiseled vintage of this fabled single-vineyard cuvée. Blending Syrah with 11% Viognier from the sun-drenched terraced slopes of the Côte Blonde, this wine highlights finesse over brute power. As a result, it exhibits bright red fruit purity, floral lift, and refined oak integration.

The 2014 vintage in the Northern Rhône favored freshness, balance, and early aromatic appeal. In addition, nearly four years in new French oak barrels softened the tannins while preserving the wine’s vibrant natural acidity. Therefore, this bottle is currently drinking with seamless elegance and precision.

Tasting Profile & Sensory Character

  • Aromatics: First, captivating aromas of wild raspberry, red currant, and lilac blossoms greet the nose. Soon after, subtle hints of cedarwood, blonde tobacco, white pepper, and smoked bacon emerge.
  • Palate: In addition, the palate is silky, energetic, and medium-full in body. Resolved tannins carry vibrant red fruit and mineral spice across a long, mouthwatering finish.

Service & Culinary Pairings

Serving Suggestions: First, pour at cellar temperature (60°F–63°F / 16°C–17°C). Next, decant for 30 to 45 minutes to let its delicate floral aromatics open fully.

Recommended Pairings: Because of its silky balance and lifted aromatics, this vintage pairs well with roasted poultry and game:

  • Pan-roasted squab or quail with wild mushrooms
  • Crispy roast duck breast with blackberry sauce
  • Herb-crusted lamb chops with roasted potatoes
  • Slow-roasted veal tenderloin with thyme

Collector Notes & Cellar Potential

The 2014 La Mouline is in a sweet spot of its evolution. It offers mature aromatic detail today while holding ample structure to cellar through 2038.
