The 2016 Domaine Roulot Luchets Meursault 750ml stands as an immortal benchmark of white Burgundy purity, laser-like precision, and artisan mastery. Furthermore, Jean-Marc Roulot is universally acclaimed for redefining Meursault, pioneering a chiseled, mineral-driven style that completely rejects heavy oak and flabbiness. Sourced from the exceptional hillside lieu-dit ‘Les Luchets’, this cuvée transcends ordinary village boundaries. Today, this distinguished bottling delivers crystalline citrus, electric limestone energy, and breathtaking cellar longevity.
Additionally, the 2016 vintage produced white Burgundies of classical proportions, chiseled acidity, and remarkable aromatic precision. Roulot’s meticulous parcel care yields fruit with unmatched mineral density. Consequently, this bottling transcends its village designation to rival elite premier crus across the Côte de Beaune.
Terroir & Viticulture
Les Luchets sits high on the Meursault slope, directly above the premier crus and adjacent to Les Tessons. However, what elevates this lieu-dit into legend is its shallow, rocky limestone soil and cool hillside microclimate. The parcel features thin, stony topsoil lying directly over hard Jurassic limestone bedrock.
Specifically, this rocky, well-draining limestone matrix forces old vine roots deep into bedrock fractures to absorb vital mineral salts. Jean-Marc Roulot manages his vineyards with certified organic viticulture and rigorous canopy management. The 2016 season began with devastating spring frosts that severely restricted yields, concentrating the surviving fruit. Therefore, the hand-harvested clusters possessed phenomenal dry extract, electric natural acidity, and pure aromatic precursors.
Vinification & Craftsmanship
Jean-Marc Roulot practices an uncompromising, minimalist winemaking philosophy designed to capture the pure voice of limestone. Grapes were harvested by hand into small crates, followed by gentle, extended pneumatic pressing of whole clusters. The unclarified must was transferred into French oak barrels in cold subterranean cellars.
Fermentation occurred spontaneously with native yeasts under cool cellar conditions. In addition, the wine matured for roughly twelve months in French oak barrels, utilizing only 15% to 20% new oak, before spending six months in stainless steel vats on fine lees. Roulot strictly avoids batonnage (lees stirring) to preserve crystalline tension and site clarity. Furthermore, the wine was bottled with minimal fining and filtration to protect its vibrant energetic core.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2016 Domaine Roulot Luchets Meursault 750ml shines with a brilliant pale straw-gold hue and lime-green reflections. The nose immediately reveals vibrant lemon zest, green orchard apple, white peach, and orange blossom. In addition, complex layers of struck flint, crushed chalk, wet river stones, and toasted hazelnuts emerge with air.
On the palate, the wine delivers extraordinary dry extract, chiseled precision, and electric velocity. A driving core of lemon oil and white orchard fruit is backed by an intense spine of saline limestone acidity. Meanwhile, subtle phenolic grip coats the mid-palate, imparting phenomenal structural weight without heaviness. Consequently, the bone-dry finish vibrates with mouthwatering tension, citrus zest, and smoky mineral persistence.

Service & Cellar Potential
Serve this exceptional Meursault between 11°C–13°C (52°F–55°F) in large Burgundy stemware. Specifically, decanting the bottle for 45 minutes prior to service allows the reductive, flinty aromatics to blossom into ripe citrus and orchard fruit. Serving too cold will mask its deep mid-palate complexity.
Pair this cuvée with pan-seared sea scallops, roasted turbot in butter sauce, lobster tail, or roasted poultry with chanterelles. Furthermore, aged firm alpine cheeses like Comté or Beaufort provide a seamless culinary match. As a result, collectors can enjoy this vibrant 2016 bottling today or cellar it effortlessly through 2038+.
