Description

The 2013 Domaine Roulot Luchets Meursault 750ml stands as an immortal benchmark of classical Burgundy purity, cool-climate tension, and artisan mastery. Furthermore, Jean-Marc Roulot is universally recognized for pioneering a chiseled, mineral-driven style that completely redefined modern Meursault. Sourced from the exceptional hillside lieu-dit ‘Les Luchets’, this cuvée captures remarkable mineral energy and architectural density. Today, this fully mature bottling captures the peak drinking window of Les Luchets, defined by crystalline orchard fruit and tertiary complexity.

Additionally, over a decade of undisturbed cellar aging has allowed this cool vintage to blossom into a glorious phase of harmony. The 2013 vintage in Burgundy is celebrated by purists for producing white wines of high acidity and transparent terroir definition. Consequently, this mature 2013 bottling delivers the seductive perfume of Meursault alongside razor-sharp limestone authority.

Terroir & Viticulture

Les Luchets sits high on the Meursault slope, directly above the premier crus and adjacent to Les Tessons. However, what distinguishes this lieu-dit is its shallow, rocky limestone soil and cool hillside microclimate. The parcel features thin, stony topsoil lying directly over hard Jurassic limestone bedrock.

Specifically, the intense stone content forces old vine roots deep into limestone fractures to extract vital mineral nutrients. Jean-Marc Roulot manages his parcels with certified organic viticulture and rigorous canopy management. The 2013 season demanded patient farming and late harvesting in October. Therefore, the fruit retained stunning natural acidity and fine-grained mineral cut that have allowed this vintage to age with supreme grace.

Vinification & Craftsmanship

Jean-Marc Roulot practices an uncompromising, minimalist winemaking philosophy designed to capture the pure voice of limestone. Grapes were harvested by hand into small crates, followed by gentle, extended pneumatic pressing of whole clusters. The unclarified must was transferred into French oak barrels in cold subterranean cellars.

Fermentation occurred spontaneously with native yeasts under cool cellar conditions. In addition, the wine matured for roughly twelve months in French oak barrels, utilizing only 15% to 20% new oak, before spending six months in stainless steel vats on fine lees. Roulot strictly avoids batonnage (lees stirring) to preserve crystalline tension and site clarity. Furthermore, the wine was bottled with minimal fining and filtration to protect its living energetic core.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, the 2013 Domaine Roulot Luchets Meursault 750ml displays a radiant golden-straw core with shimmering green highlights. The nose immediately reveals dried lemon peel, white orchard peach, hazelnut oil, and crushed chalk. In addition, complex secondary notes of struck flint, beeswax, wet river stones, and pastry cream emerge with gentle aeration.

On the palate, the wine delivers weightless concentration, laser-sharp focus, and incredible tension. A core of citrus oil and tart orchard fruit is framed by an intense, electric spine of limestone acidity. Meanwhile, subtle phenolic grip coats the mid-palate, imparting phenomenal structural weight without heaviness. Consequently, the bone-dry finish vibrates with mouthwatering salinity, lemon zest, and smoky mineral persistence.

Service & Cellar Potential

Serve this mature Meursault between 11°C–13°C (52°F–55°F) in large Burgundy stemware. Specifically, decanting the bottle gently for 20 to 30 minutes prior to service allows the tertiary aromas to blossom fully. Avoid serving too cold, as excessive chill will suppress its expansive mid-palate texture.

Pair this cuvée with roasted turbot in butter sauce, pan-seared sea scallops, butter-poached lobster tail, or roasted Bresse chicken with chanterelles. Furthermore, aged artisanal cheeses like Comté or Beaufort provide a sublime culinary match. As a result, collectors can savor this pinnacle 2013 bottling now or cellar it securely through 2033+.
