2006 Azienda Vinicola Cherchi Soberanu: Rare Sardinian Magnum
The 2006 Azienda Vinicola Cherchi Soberanu Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Rouge 1.5L is an exceptional mature gem from northwestern Sardinia. In particular, this collector magnum showcases the rare indigenous Cagnulari grape cultivated on high-altitude limestone hillsides. In addition, the celebrated 2006 vintage provided warm, slow-ripening conditions that built magnificent depth and ageworthy structure.
Tasting Notes for 2006 Azienda Vinicola Cherchi Soberanu
The wine opens with tertiary aromas of dried black cherry, leather, tobacco leaf, wild myrtle, and crushed Mediterranean scrub. Furthermore, nuanced notes of cocoa nibs, balsam, and balsamic herbs expand beautifully with aeration. On the palate, mature, polished tannins harmonize with savory dark fruits and lively volcanic freshness. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound warmth, iron-rich minerality, and rustic noble grace.

Estate History and Heritage
Azienda Vinicola Cherchi was founded in 1970 by Giovanni Cherchi in the historic hills of Usini. Specifically, Giovanni is widely recognized as the pioneer who single-handedly rescued the ancient Cagnulari grape from near extinction. Moreover, the estate remains committed to traditional Sardinian varieties planted on pristine calcareous soils.
Today, the Cherchi family carries forward this artisanal heritage with absolute respect for local biodiversity. As a result, this mature 2006 Soberanu magnum represents a magnificent, historic portrait of rare Sardinian winemaking.
