2001 Guffens-Heynen Clos des Petits Croux: Historic Mâconnais Masterpiece
The 2001 Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Petits Croux Blanc 750ml is a collector rarity representing the golden standard of mature Mâconnais Chardonnay. In particular, this single-parcel cuvée comes from ancient vines planted on pure limestone bedrock in Vergisson. In addition, over two decades of patient cellar aging have woven its structure into complex tertiary honeyed harmony.
Tasting Notes for 2001 Guffens Clos des Petits Croux
The wine opens with hypnotic aromas of candied citrus peel, quince, beeswax, chamomile, and crushed limestone. Furthermore, complex tertiary notes of ginger, dried apricot, honeyed nuts, and wet river stones unfold with aeration. On the palate, an expansive, phenolic texture is pierced by a laser-like spine of mineral acidity. Consequently, the finish lingers with extraordinary length, saline grip, and noble, dry extract.

Estate History and Heritage
Domaine Guffens-Heynen was established in 1979 when Flemish visionary Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Lydie arrived in the Mâconnais. Specifically, Jean-Marie revolutionized perceptions of the region by proving that southern Burgundy terroirs could rival the greatest crus of the Côte d’Or. Moreover, his cellar approach features gentle pneumatic pressings and minimal intervention.
Today, older library vintages from Guffens-Heynen are prized by connoisseurs as proof of Mâconnais longevity. As a result, this 2001 release offers an authentic masterclass in fine white Burgundy.
