Description

2005 Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Perrin: 100-Point Châteauneuf Magnum

The 2005 Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 1.5L Magnum stands as an undisputed, 100-point masterpiece of Southern Rhône fine wine. In particular, this mythic cuvée is crafted around ancient centenary Mourvèdre vines planted in the galets roulés soils of Courthézon. In addition, the legendary 2005 harvest across France produced monumental fruit concentration, massive structure, and decades of cellar life in large format.

Tasting Notes for 2005 Beaucastel Hommage à Perrin

The wine opens with commanding aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, black truffle, smoked game, and wild garrigue. Furthermore, complex accents of dark chocolate, leather, licorice root, and iron minerality develop with decanting. On the palate, massive, fine-grained tannins cushion a deeply concentrated core of dark bramble berries. Consequently, the finish lingers with extraordinary length, warming spice, and aristocratic Southern Rhône composure.

Estate History and Heritage

Château de Beaucastel created this rare cuvée in 1989 to honor Jacques Perrin, who pioneered organic and biodynamic viticulture in the mid-20th century. Specifically, Hommage is produced only in outstanding vintages when the old-vine Mourvèdre achieves perfect phenolic maturity. Moreover, it is universally recognized as one of the most age-worthy wines in the world.

Today, the Perrin family crafts this bottling in tiny, allocated quantities. As a result, this 2005 magnum stands as a monumental acquisition for serious fine wine collectors.
