Description

2006 Domaine de Trévallon: Cult Alpilles Masterpiece

The 2006 Domaine de Trévallon Rouge IGP Alpilles 750ml stands as an iconic collector monument of southern French fine wine. In particular, this mythical estate sits on the rocky northern slopes of the Alpilles mountains, planted with equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. In addition, the classic 2006 vintage provided exceptional balance, delivering supple tannins, savory garrigue aromatics, and long-lived vitality.

Tasting Notes for 2006 Domaine de Trévallon

The wine opens with mature aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, leather, wild rosemary, and black olive tapenade. Furthermore, complex secondary notes of cigar box, game, and crushed limestone emerge with decanting. On the palate, silky, fully integrated tannins support a savory core of mature dark berries and dried herbs. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound warmth, balsamic freshness, and noble poise.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine de Trévallon was created in 1973 by visionary vigneron and artist Éloi Dürrbach in the rugged hills of Saint-Étienne-du-Grès. Specifically, Éloi dynamited scrubland and limestone rock to plant his iconic blend, defying regional AOC regulations to preserve wine quality. Moreover, his father René Dürrbach, a friend of Pablo Picasso, designed the estate’s iconic artistic labels.

Today, the Dürrbach family continues this low-intervention, chemical-free winemaking tradition. As a result, Trévallon is universally revered as one of the greatest cult wines in France.
