Description

2016 Domaine Tempier Migoua: Benchmark Bandol Magnum

The 2016 Domaine Tempier Migoua Bandol Rouge 1.5L Magnum captures the rustic nobility and high-altitude complexity of Provence from an all-time classic harvest. In particular, the Migoua parcel perches at the highest point of the appellation on diverse soils of clay, limestone, and flint. In addition, the celebrated 2016 vintage produced fruit with superb structural tension, energetic acidity, and cellar resilience.

Tasting Notes for 2016 Domaine Tempier Migoua

The wine opens with wild aromas of dark cherry, wild blackberry, leather, dried garrigue herbs, and game. Furthermore, nuanced notes of licorice root, dark chocolate, and iron-rich minerality develop with decanting. On the palate, complex, chalky tannins coat the mouth with rich, savory dark fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with extraordinary length, warming spice, and noble rustic grace.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Tempier is universally celebrated as the historic heart and soul of the Bandol appellation. Specifically, Lucien Peyraud and his wife Lulu revitalized the ancient estate in the 1940s, securing global acclaim for the region’s wines. Moreover, Tempier was among the first estates in southern France to isolate and bottle single-vineyard terroirs.

Today, the estate continues its biodynamic viticulture and traditional large foudre aging under the Peyraud family. As a result, La Migoua remains one of the most intellectually complex, age-worthy red wines in France.
