2014 Louis Roederer Cristal 750ml
2014 Louis Roederer Cristal 750ml is the celebrated prestige cuvée of Champagne Louis Roederer. Composed from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, this vintage Champagne combines ripe fruit, exceptionally fine bubbles and concentrated texture with the saline, chalk-driven character that defines Cristal.
The 2014 vintage was produced from carefully selected estate vineyards across the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. Thirty-two percent of the wine was vinified in oak, while malolactic fermentation was intentionally blocked to preserve freshness, acidity and precision.
With a dosage of 7 grams per liter, the 2014 Louis Roederer Cristal balances luminous fruit with citrus, toasted almond, fine pastry, spice and intense chalky minerality. Its combination of concentration, freshness and cellar potential makes it both an exceptional Champagne for drinking and an important vintage for collectors.

The 2014 Champagne Vintage
The 2014 growing season was defined by contrasting weather conditions. A warm and dry spring was followed by a cooler, wetter summer. Dry conditions and sunshine returned in September, allowing Louis Roederer to delay harvesting until the grapes achieved the desired concentration, ripeness and natural balance.
The estate’s chalk-rich soils provided excellent drainage during the wetter portions of the growing season. This helped preserve fruit quality while contributing to the mineral tension and saline freshness found in the finished Champagne.
For Louis Roederer’s cellar master, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, 2014 produced a Cristal of energy, intensity and terroir expression. The finished wine combines the generous fruit associated with riper vintages with the freshness and precision necessary for long-term development.
Grand Cru Vineyard Origins
Cristal is produced from Louis Roederer’s most highly regarded estate vineyards. The 2014 composition draws from sites across three important Champagne sectors:
- Montagne de Reims: Pinot Noir providing structure, energy and saline character
- Vallée de la Marne: Ripe fruit, breadth and generous texture
- Côte des Blancs: Chardonnay contributing finesse, acidity and chalky minerality
The principal villages represented include Verzenay, Verzy, Beaumont-sur-Vesle, Aÿ, Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant. These sites are recognized for shallow topsoils and chalk-rich subsoils that encourage deep rooting, natural freshness and a strong mineral identity.
Winemaking and Extended Cellar Aging
The final composition is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Approximately 32% of the base wines were vinified in oak, contributing additional texture, spice and depth without overpowering the fruit.
Malolactic fermentation was not used. Retaining the wine’s natural malic acidity preserved the energetic freshness, precision and long-term aging structure of the 2014 vintage.
Cristal receives extended aging on its lees in Louis Roederer’s cellars, followed by further bottle aging after disgorgement. The dosage for the 2014 vintage is 7 grams per liter, maintaining Brut balance while allowing the ripe fruit and chalky structure to remain clearly expressed.

The History of Cristal
Louis Roederer created Cristal in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The Champagne was presented in a transparent, flat-bottom bottle that allowed the wine to remain fully visible, creating one of the most recognizable presentations in the world of fine wine.
Today, Cristal is produced only in vintages when Louis Roederer’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay achieve the necessary maturity, balance and concentration. It remains the house’s flagship prestige cuvée and one of Champagne’s most recognized collectible wines.

Serving Recommendation
Serve 2014 Cristal at approximately 48–52°F in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass or fine white-wine stem. Avoid serving it excessively cold, as additional temperature allows the citrus, almond, pastry and mineral aromas to develop.
Allowing the Champagne several minutes in the glass will reveal greater aromatic complexity and a broader, more vinous texture.
Food Pairing
Pair 2014 Louis Roederer Cristal with caviar, oysters, sashimi, lobster, scallops, king crab, smoked salmon, truffle risotto, roast poultry or aged Parmesan. Its concentrated fruit and chalky acidity can support both delicate seafood and richer dishes.
Buyer and Storage Note
Store Champagne horizontally in a dark, vibration-free environment with a consistent temperature near 55°F. Avoid prolonged exposure to heat, sunlight and sudden temperature changes.
