Description

Overview & Provenance

The 2021 Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie is one of the world’s most famous single-vineyard Syrah bottlings. Sourced from ancient vines on the amphitheater slopes of the Côte Blonde, this iconic cuvée blends 89% Syrah with 11% Viognier. As a result, it delivers legendary floral perfume, seamless texture, and exceptional elegance.

The cool 2021 harvest produced wines of classic balance, low alcohol, and vibrant natural acidity across Côte-Rôtie. In addition, Guigal’s signature 40 months of aging in new French oak barrels yields a luxurious, polished frame. Therefore, this youthful release showcases pure aromatics paired with long-term cellar potential.

Tasting Profile & Sensory Character

  • Aromatics: First, explosive floral scents of violet petals, apricot blossom, and wild raspberry fill the glass. Soon after, notes of smoked bacon, blonde tobacco, white pepper, and vanilla bean unfold.
  • Palate: In addition, the palate is silky, supple, and driven by bright red and black fruit. Micro-fine tannins support flavors of cassis, mineral earth, and subtle spice on a long, seamless finish.

Service & Culinary Pairings

Serving Suggestions: First, pour at cellar temperature (60°F–64°F / 16°C–18°C) in wide Rhône glasses. Next, decant for at least 60 minutes to let its young structure and oak integration soften.

Recommended Pairings: Because of its velvety texture and floral lift, this flagship Côte-Rôtie matches refined meats:

  • Pan-roasted squab with truffle reduction
  • Herb-crusted rack of lamb with garlic purée
  • Pan-seared duck breast with blackberry sauce
  • Slow-roasted veal chops with chanterelles

Collector Notes & Cellar Potential

Guigal’s “La La” bottlings are pillars of global fine wine collections. While alluring in its youthful primary stage with decanting, the 2021 La Mouline will hit its prime stride between 2030 and 2050+.
