Description

The Moët & Chandon MCIII 001.14 Brut Champagne NV is an avant-garde masterpiece of luxury sparkling winemaking. Furthermore, MCIII represents the most ambitious prestige cuvée ever produced by this historic house. Chef de Cave Benoît Gouez crafted this multi-vintage assemblage across three distinct maturation universes. Consequently, this rare allocation provides collectors with an unprecedented sensory experience.

Additionally, the cuvée blends iconic reserve vintages spanning three decades. The name MCIII references Moët & Chandon and its innovative trilogy of maturation environments: metal, wood, and glass. Therefore, this bottle effortlessly bridges luscious richness with eternal autolytic freshness.

Terroir & Assemblage

MCIII sources exclusively from premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Champagne. Specifically, the blend brings together Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from legendary terroirs such as Aÿ, Cramant, and Bouzy. These chalk-rich hillsides provide natural elegance and structured power. As a result, the baseline fruit possesses the structural stamina required for multi-decade aging.

Meanwhile, the 001.14 edition represents the inaugural release of this groundbreaking project. It brings together historic vintages spanning from 1993 to 2003. Furthermore, each harvest was chosen for its specific textural and aromatic contribution. Thus, the assemblage captures the pinnacle expression of Champagne’s finest crus.

Vinification & The Three Universes

The vinification of MCIII unites three distinct aging mediums in a single bottle. First, the metal universe consists of 2003 vintage Chardonnay and Pinot Noir aged in stainless steel vats. Second, the wood universe incorporates reserve wines from 1998, 2000, and 2002 matured in large oak casks.

Third, the glass universe features mature vintage Champagnes from 1993, 1998, and 1999 disgorged from bottles. Afterwards, the complete master blend underwent a second in-bottle fermentation and spent a decade on lees. Finally, the house disgorged the cuvée in 2014 with a precise Brut dosage of 5 grams per liter.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, the Champagne presents a deep yellow-gold hue with amber reflections and a delicate bead. Immediately, the bouquet opens with complex aromas of candied citrus, roasted coffee, and dried apricot. In addition, tertiary notes of warm brioche, tobacco leaf, praline, and struck flint unfold with air.

On the palate, the wine delivers astonishing depth, seamless texture, and vinous power. Flavors of baked yellow plum and pastry cream glide across a fine, creamy mousse. Meanwhile, an energetic spine of chalky acidity preserves remarkable freshness. Consequently, the finish conclusion is endlessly expansive, lingering with toasted nuts and salty minerality.

Service & Cellar Potential

Serve this complex prestige Champagne between 10°C–12°C (50°F–54°F). Specifically, we strongly advise using large white wine glasses rather than narrow flutes. Therefore, the multi-layered wood and bottle-aged aromatics will have space to blossom completely.

Pair this wine with seared squab, roasted veal with truffles, or aged Parmigiano-Reggiano. Furthermore, the extraordinary concentration of reserve wines ensures fantastic aging stability. As a result, collectors can celebrate this bottle today or cellar it safely through 2035.
