Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin has farmed in Chablis for thirteen generations, today managing 26 hectares across Petit Chablis, village Chablis, nine Premier Crus, and five Grand Crus. Montée de Tonnerre, often called the greatest of the Chablis Premier Crus, comes from a 1.76-hectare parcel of 50-year-old vines on the estate’s Kimmeridgian marl and limestone slopes.
Made from Chardonnay using a mix of stainless steel and barrel to preserve freshness, the wine opens with minerality and white fruit, joined by white flowers, anise, menthol, brioche, and sweet spice. The palate delivers lengthy vivacity with saline, oyster-shell character carried by a vein of blue clay running through the vineyard.
As one of Chablis’ most celebrated Premier Cru sites, this bottle is built for serious cellaring and known to gain complexity over fifteen years or more. Its pedigree, tiny production of roughly 9,500 bottles, and outstanding critical reception make it a genuine collector’s white Burgundy.
A strong choice for Chablis collectors, milestone gifting, or anyone building a cellar of top white Burgundy.
