Henri Chauvet left a career in insurance and banking to pursue winemaking, training with respected vignerons including Thierry Allemand in Cornas before taking over 10.5 hectares of vineyard in Boudes, in France’s Auvergne region, in 2021. Vie Ordinaire is his Pinot Noir bottling from volcanic parcels there.
Made with whole-bunch fermentation and minimal intervention, the wine opens with sour cherry, raspberry, and warm spice on the nose, with the subtle vegetal character common to whole-bunch winemaking. The palate delivers delicate red fruit and silky tannins with bright acidity, smoky undertones, and a mineral finish from the vineyard’s volcanic basalt soils.
This is a light, natural, easy-drinking red best enjoyed young — an accessible, everyday way to explore an emerging volcanic terroir rather than a wine built for long-term cellaring.
A good match for casual dinners, natural wine tastings, or anyone curious about lesser-known French Pinot Noir.
