La Charme aux Pretres is a historic Marsannay climat, named for the church further down the slope, farmed by Sylvain Pataille, who founded his eponymous domaine in 1999 with a single hectare and has since expanded to 17. The Aligote vines here were planted in 1949 on gravelly, reddish-brown soil over Comblanchien limestone bedrock.

Expect intense minerality and natural tension, a wine capable of gaining complexity with a few years of cellaring rather than the simple, quaffable style Aligote is often known for. Pataille is widely credited with elevating Aligote’s reputation across Burgundy.
