2023 Domaine des Sables Verts Les Poyeux 1.5L

Les Poyeux is one of the most famous red-wine vineyards in the Loire, historically associated with the legendary Clos Rougeard, and Domaine des Sables Verts holds 1.8 hectares of old vines here planted in the 1950s. Founded by husband-and-wife team Caroline Meuree and Herve Maligne in 2019, the estate farms silica-limestone soils layered with green sand and tuffeau across the Saumur region.

Fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeast and aged 11 months in barrel, the wine shows fleshy, fragrant blackberry and mulberry fruit with soft tannins and appetizing freshness, alongside notes of spice, licorice and tobacco. Bottled in magnum, it is a serious, terroir-driven Saumur-Champigny from one of the region’s most exciting young estates.
