Overview & Provenance
The 2021 Guigal La Turque Côte-Rôtie is a legendary single-vineyard Northern Rhône Syrah from the steep terraces of the Côte Brune. Planted on iron-rich mica-schist soils and blended with approximately 7% Viognier, this cuvée combines muscular structure with haunting floral aromatics. As a result, it delivers extraordinary power, aromatic complexity, and long-term cellar pedigree.
The cool 2021 harvest produced wines of classic balance, fine natural acidity, and lower alcohol across Côte-Rôtie. In addition, Guigal’s signature 40 months of maturation in new French oak casks gives the wine a polished, aristocratic texture. Therefore, this youthful release showcases pure Northern Rhône precision alongside exceptional cellaring potential.
Tasting Profile & Sensory Character
- Aromatics: First, the glass opens with aromas of crème de cassis, wild blackberry, and fresh violet flowers. Soon after, notes of dark chocolate, smoked bacon, cracked black pepper, and crushed graphite develop with air.
- Palate: In addition, the palate is deep, muscular, and framed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Vibrant dark fruit and mineral earth flavors carry across a long, mouthwatering, and savory finish.
Service & Culinary Pairings
Serving Suggestions: First, pour at cellar temperature (60°F–64°F / 16°C–18°C) in broad stemware. Next, decant for at least 60 to 90 minutes to allow its youthful structure and oak to soften.
Recommended Pairings: Because of its muscular tannins and savory spice, this flagship Syrah matches rich red meats:
- Grilled prime ribeye steak with rosemary butter
- Herb-crusted rack of lamb with garlic purée
- Slow-braised venison or wild boar stew
- Roast squab with black truffle reduction
Collector Notes & Cellar Potential
Guigal’s “La La” bottlings are pillars of global fine wine collections. While impressive today with proper aeration, this 2021 La Turque will reach peak harmony between 2030 and 2055+.
