The 2018 Domaine Hubert Lamy Clos du Meix Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 750ml stands as a brilliant benchmark of Côte de Beaune white wine mastery, tension, and modern precision. Furthermore, Olivier Lamy is universally recognized as one of the most visionary and meticulous vignerons in all of Burgundy. Situated on a historic walled premier cru site in Saint-Aubin, this cuvée captures remarkable mineral energy and architectural density. Today, this distinguished bottling delivers crystalline citrus, chalky limestone drive, and monumental cellar longevity.
Additionally, the estate’s high-density viticultural philosophy brings thrilling verticality to this historic terroir. Saint-Aubin historically offered vibrant everyday whites, yet Lamy elevates it to rival the greatest crus of Puligny and Chassagne. Consequently, this 2018 vintage combines generous summer fruit with searing, mouthwatering mineral cut.
Terroir & Viticulture
Clos du Meix is an exclusive 0.7-hectare walled parcel situated directly behind the village church of Saint-Aubin. However, what distinguishes this premier cru site is its unique microclimate and southern exposure. The vineyard sits on stony limestone soils blended with white marl and light clay.
Specifically, the rocky limestone matrix provides superb drainage and forces vine roots deep into the bedrock fractures. Olivier Lamy manages the vineyard with sustainable and biodynamic disciplines, utilizing dense vine spacing to encourage deep root competition. The warm 2018 growing season delivered abundant summer sunshine and early ripening conditions. Therefore, Lamy picked early in the harvest window to lock in vibrant natural acidity and prevent excessive alcohol accumulation.
Vinification & Craftsmanship
Olivier Lamy approaches vinification with uncompromising precision, avoiding heavy wood influence and forced extraction. Grapes were harvested entirely by hand in small baskets, followed by slow, gentle pressing in pneumatic presses. The unclarified juice was transferred directly to larger neutral oak demi-muids and 600-liter casks.
Fermentation initiated naturally with indigenous yeasts under cool cellar conditions. In addition, the wine underwent complete malolactic fermentation while aging on its fine lees for roughly eighteen to twenty-four months. Lamy completely avoids bâtonnage (lees stirring) to preserve pure site transparency and tension. Furthermore, the wine was bottled with minimal sulfur to retain its living energetic core and crystalline texture.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Domaine Hubert Lamy Clos du Meix Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 750ml shines with a brilliant pale straw-gold hue and lime-green reflections. The nose immediately reveals vibrant lemon curd, green orchard apple, white peach, and orange blossom. In addition, complex layers of struck match reduction, crushed chalk, wet river stones, and toasted hazelnuts emerge with air.
On the palate, the wine delivers extraordinary dry extract, chiseled precision, and electric velocity. A driving core of lemon oil and white orchard fruit is backed by an intense spine of saline limestone acidity. Meanwhile, subtle phenolic grip coats the mid-palate, imparting phenomenal structural weight without heaviness. Consequently, the bone-dry finish vibrates with mouthwatering tension, citrus zest, and smoky mineral persistence.

Service & Cellar Potential
Serve this Premier Cru white wine between 11°C–13°C (52°F–55°F) in universal white wine or large Burgundy stemware. Specifically, decant the bottle for 30 to 45 minutes prior to service to allow the reductive, flinty aromatics to blossom into ripe orchard fruit. Serving too cold will mask its deep mid-palate complexity.
Pair this cuvée with pan-seared sea scallops, roasted turbot in butter sauce, lobster tail, or roasted poultry with chanterelles. Furthermore, aged firm alpine cheeses like Comté or Beaufort provide a seamless culinary match. As a result, collectors can enjoy this vibrant 2018 bottling today or cellar it effortlessly through 2038+.
