Description

Overview & Provenance

The 2016 Domaine Gangloff Saint-Joseph Blanc is an intensely aromatic, micro-production white Rhône crafted by Yves and Mathilde Gangloff. Sourced from steep granite terraces in the northern sector of Saint-Joseph, this cuvée is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. As a result, it marries rich floral generosity with vibrant granitic tension.

The 2016 vintage in the Northern Rhône favored freshness, refined acidity, and exceptional aromatic purity. In addition, Gangloff’s careful barrel fermentation and lees stirring provide creamy texture without masking the soil’s character. Therefore, this bottle provides a rare and thrilling expression of artisanal white Rhône winemaking.

Tasting Profile & Sensory Character

  • Aromatics: First, the nose reveals white peach, apricot blossom, and beeswax. Soon after, complex aromas of toasted almond, honeysuckle, crushed granite, and Meyer lemon develop in the glass.
  • Palate: In addition, the palate is unctuous, silky, and energetic across the tongue. Bright citrus notes and saline minerality balance the rich stone fruit through a long, focused finish.

Service & Culinary Pairings

Serving Suggestions: First, serve at cellar temperature (52°F–56°F / 11°C–13°C) rather than ice-cold. Next, decant for 20 to 30 minutes in wide stems to let its perfume bloom.

Recommended Pairings: Because of its textural richness and mineral cut, this white Saint-Joseph matches fine poultry and seafood:

  • Pan-roasted sea scallops with brown butter and lemon
  • Herb-roasted farm chicken with buttery pan drippings
  • Pan-seared halibut with leek fondue
  • Creamy goat cheeses or aged Saint-Marcellin

Collector Notes & Cellar Potential

Domaine Gangloff produces only a tiny allocation of Saint-Joseph Blanc each year, making bottles difficult to acquire. This 2016 vintage is in a prime mature drinking window right now and will hold beautifully through 2030.
