Description

2013 Domaine Clape Cornas: Pure Granite Syrah Magnum

The 2013 Domaine Clape Cornas Rouge 1.5L Magnum captures the savage beauty and classical structure of the Northern Rhône. In particular, this benchmark cuvée comes from ancient Syrah vines clinging to dizzying, south-facing granite terraces. In addition, the cool and late 2013 harvest produced fruit with remarkable structural tension, lively acidity, and deep savory drive in large format.

Tasting Notes for 2013 Domaine Clape Cornas

The wine opens with mature aromas of wild blackberry, black olive, smoked bacon, cracked black pepper, and iron. Furthermore, complex notes of dried violet, leather, forest floor, and crushed stone unfold with decanting. On the palate, muscular yet resolved tannins frame a savory core of dark bramble berries and game. Consequently, the finish lingers with refreshing acidity, stony grip, and authentic Cornas tension.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Auguste Clape is widely revered as the greatest and most traditional producer in the history of Cornas. Specifically, Auguste Clape was the very first vigneron in the village to bottle and sell his own wine in the 1950s. Moreover, the estate has steadfastly refused destemming, utilizing whole clusters and ancient neutral oak foudres.

Today, Pierre-Marie and Olivier Clape carry forward this legendary torch with meticulous artisanal care. As a result, this 2013 Cornas magnum stands as an uncompromising portrait of pure granite Syrah.
