Description

2011 Domaine Tempier Cabassaou: Savory Old-Vine Depth

The 2011 Domaine Tempier Cabassaou Bandol Rouge 750ml offers collectors a beautifully matured snapshot of old-vine Mourvèdre. In particular, this cuvée comes from a protected amphitheater where ancient vines dig deep into limestone bedrock. In addition, the classic 2011 growing season provided warm days and cool nights, yielding exceptional aromatic complexity and balance.

Tasting Notes for 2011 Domaine Tempier Cabassaou

The wine opens with mature, complex aromas of dried blackberry, leather, black olive, wild rosemary, and game. Furthermore, lingering notes of dark cocoa, dried orange peel, and damp earth reveal themselves with decanting. On the palate, silky, resolved tannins wrap around a savory mid-palate of dried dark fruits. Consequently, the finish lingers with noble poise, mineral freshness, and enduring rustic grace.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Tempier is universally celebrated as the greatest and most influential estate in Bandol. Specifically, Lucien Peyraud transformed the property in the mid-20th century by demonstrating that Mourvèdre was Bandol’s noble soul. Moreover, Tempier was among the earliest estates in France to champion non-interventionist cellar practices.

Today, the estate continues to farm biodynamically, maturing wines in large foudres for nearly two years. As a result, this 2011 Cabassaou stands as a textbook example of world-class, mature Bandol.
