Description

2009 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin Champin le Seigneur: Côte-Rôtie Double Magnum

The 2009 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin Champin le Seigneur Côte-Rôtie Rouge 3L Double Magnum (Jeroboam) is a voluptuous, mature Northern Rhône triumph. In particular, Champin le Seigneur comes from mica-schist and granite slopes that lend intense aromatics and silky texture to Syrah. In addition, the solar and celebrated 2009 vintage delivered immense fruit sweetness, supple tannins, and wonderful drinking harmony in large format.

Tasting Notes for 2009 Gerin Champin le Seigneur

The wine opens with opulent aromas of ripe blackberry, dark cherry, roasted coffee, bacon fat, and violets. Furthermore, mature layers of black truffle, smoked leather, and cracked black pepper develop gracefully with decanting. On the palate, plush, seamless tannins wrap around a deeply concentrated core of dark fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with remarkable length, savory warmth, and mineral poise.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin was founded in 1983 in the heart of Ampuis by visionary vigneron Jean-Michel Gerin. Specifically, Jean-Michel was among the trailblazers who restored neglected, vertigo-inducing schist terraces across Côte-Rôtie. Moreover, he pioneered parcel-specific cuvées that highlight the unique geologies of the appellation.

Today, his sons Michaël and Alexis bring modern precision to the cellar while honoring estate traditions. As a result, this 3-liter Jeroboam represents a stunning and generous expression of mature Northern Rhône craft.
