Description

2008 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc: The Grand Cru of the Languedoc in Magnum

The 2008 Daumas Gassac Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc 1.5L Magnum represents a rare, mature collector jewel of southern France. In particular, the estate sits in an isolated microclimate along the Gassac valley with cool glacial soils. In addition, the fresh 2008 vintage allowed this unique blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, and Chenin Blanc to develop monumental complexity and longevity.

Tasting Notes for 2008 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc

The wine opens with mature aromas of dried apricot, preserved lemon, beeswax, honeysuckle, and roasted hazelnut. Furthermore, complex secondary notes of chamomile, dried mango, and wet river stones expand gracefully with air. On the palate, a rich, waxy texture is seamlessly supported by surprisingly vibrant natural acidity. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound warmth, mineral persistence, and noble poise.

Estate History and Heritage

Mas de Daumas Gassac revolutionized southern French fine winemaking starting in the early 1970s. Specifically, founders Aimé and Véronique Guibert discovered pristine glacial soil with the help of famed Bordeaux geologist Henri Enjalbert. Moreover, legendary enologist Émile Peynaud guided their inaugural vintages to establish an unprecedented standard of quality.

Today, the Guibert siblings carry forward this legendary family project through chemical-free farming and artisanal cellaring. As a result, Mas de Daumas Gassac stands universally acknowledged as a cult classic of timeless prestige.
