Description

2007 Château-Grillet: Historic Rhône Monopole Viognier

The 2007 Château-Grillet Blanc 750ml represents an ancient, mythic white wine from one of the smallest single-estate appellations in France. In particular, the estate forms a steep, south-facing granite amphitheater overlooking the Rhône river, planted exclusively with Viognier. In addition, the balanced 2007 vintage provided delicate floral aromatics, lively natural acidity, and profound mineral cut.

Tasting Notes for 2007 Château-Grillet

The wine opens with captivating aromas of ripe apricot, beeswax, white peach, honeysuckle, and crushed granite. Furthermore, complex hints of toasted hazelnut, marzipan, and wild thyme evolve with time in the glass. On the palate, an opulent, waxy texture is seamlessly supported by energetic granite minerality. Consequently, the finish lingers with extraordinary length, saline tension, and dry extract.

Estate History and Heritage

Château-Grillet has cultivated vines since Roman times, officially recognized as its own distinct appellation in 1936. Specifically, the 3.5-hectare monopole was stewarded for generations by the Neyret-Gachet family before being acquired by François Pinault in 2011. Moreover, Château-Grillet is famous for Viognier of exceptional tension rather than heavy alcohol.

Today, mature bottles from the historic Neyret-Gachet era are prized as rare collector artifacts. As a result, this 2007 release offers an authentic taste of ancient Northern Rhône history.
