Description

2005 Mas de Daumas Gassac: The Grand Cru of the Languedoc

The 2005 Mas de Daumas Gassac Hérault Rouge 750ml represents a mature collector bottle often heralded as the Lafite of the South. In particular, the estate sits in an isolated microclimate along the Gassac valley with glacial soils resembling the Médoc. In addition, the legendary 2005 vintage yielded massive structure, velvety fruit, and monumental longevity across France.

Tasting Notes for 2005 Mas de Daumas Gassac

The wine opens with mature aromas of blackcurrant, leather, cigar box, wild rosemary, and black truffle. Furthermore, complex layers of dried fig and smoky cedar unfold with time in the decanter. On the palate, seamlessly integrated tannins coat the palate with dark bramble fruits and savory garrigue earth. Consequently, the finish lingers with noble harmony and aristocratic complexity.

Estate History and Heritage

Mas de Daumas Gassac revolutionized southern French fine winemaking starting in the early 1970s. Specifically, founders Aimé and Véronique Guibert discovered pristine glacial soil with the help of famed Bordeaux geologist Henri Enjalbert. Moreover, legendary enologist Émile Peynaud guided their inaugural vintage to establish an unprecedented standard of quality.

Today, the Guibert siblings carry forward this legendary family project through chemical-free farming and artisanal cellaring. As a result, Mas de Daumas Gassac stands universally acknowledged as a cult classic of timeless prestige.
