The 1995 Château Margaux Margaux 750ml stands as a legendary benchmark of First Growth brilliance from an extraordinary 1990s vintage. Furthermore, the 1995 growing season marked a glorious return to hot, dry summer conditions that produced deeply concentrated, age-worthy wines. Under the visionary direction of Paul Pontallier, the estate crafted a masterclass in classic elegance, seductive perfume, and noble structure. Today, this iconic bottling offers wine connoisseurs a supreme expression of fully mature Left Bank majesty.
Additionally, three decades of slow, undisturbed cellar resting have brought this First Growth into its glorious prime drinking window. Château Margaux uniquely harmonizes power with astonishing floral finesse. Consequently, this bottle delivers a thrilling sensory experience characterized by seamless tannins and complex tertiary aromatics.
Terroir & Viticulture
Château Margaux sits upon the most celebrated gravel mounds of the Margaux appellation. However, what elevates this site into the pantheon of viticulture is its intricate mosaic of clay and limestone underlying deep gravel beds. This unique structure forces vine roots deep into the earth to access vital trace minerals.
Specifically, the deep gravel mounds provide superb water drainage during wet spells while storing solar warmth for evening release. The 1995 growing season delivered ideal summer heat with a warm, sunny September harvest. Therefore, the old vines yielded small, thick-skinned berries packed with concentrated flavors, noble tannins, and balanced natural acidity.
Vinification & Craftsmanship
Paul Pontallier and his dedicated cellar team harvested each parcel entirely by hand with multiple sortings. The grapes underwent temperature-regulated fermentation in the estate’s historic wooden vats. Afterwards, measured maceration extracted delicate, fine-grained polyphenols to preserve Margaux’s legendary silky texture.
The Grand Vin matured for nearly two years in 100% new French oak barriques, produced directly by the château’s internal cooperage. In addition, traditional racking and gentle fining clarified the wine without stripping its profound aromatic subtleties. This harmonious wood treatment imparted delicate hints of toasted cedar and sweet spices. Furthermore, decades in bottle have completely integrated the oak into the rich wine structure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 1995 Château Margaux Margaux 750ml displays a deep garnet core with a delicate brick and mahogany rim. The nose immediately reveals intoxicating aromas of dried violets, red currant, crème de cassis, and sandalwood. In addition, complex secondary layers of black truffles, cigar wrapper, incense, and graphite emerge with gentle aeration.
On the palate, the wine displays ethereal weightlessness combined with tremendous flavor concentration. Silky, completely resolved tannins wrap around notes of ripe plum, sweet black tea, leather, and dark chocolate. Meanwhile, vibrant acidity preserves exceptional poise and youthful lift. Consequently, the aristocratic finish extends with remarkable length, echoing floral nuances and mineral earth.

Service & Cellar Potential
Serve this mature First Growth between 16°C–18°C (60°F–64°F) in standard Bordeaux red wine glassware. Specifically, decant the wine gently for 30 to 45 minutes prior to service to separate natural cellar sediment. Avoid excessive decanting so that the wine’s fragile, aged perfume remains fully intact.
Pair this vintage with roasted woodcock, classic roast duck, herb-crusted rack of lamb, or wild mushroom tartlets. Furthermore, medium-aged hard cheeses create an exceptional dining harmony. As a result, collectors can enjoy this breathtaking 1995 bottling now or cellar it securely through 2035+.
