The 1993 Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 6 x 750ml OWC is an extraordinary First Growth collector’s ensemble. Furthermore, this pristine original wooden case houses one of the most famous artist labels in estate history. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild selected French painter Balthus to illustrate the 1993 vintage. Consequently, this complete six-bottle case commands immense historical and aesthetic reverence worldwide.
Additionally, rigorous estate selection produced a refined, classical Pauillac in an otherwise challenging vintage. Meanwhile, decades of professional cellaring have unlocked profound tertiary cedar and tobacco complexities. Therefore, this intact collection offers both an exquisite tasting journey and exceptional collector pedigree.
Terroir & Viticulture
The Mouton Rothschild vineyard sits perched upon the high gravel mound of the Plateau de Mouton. Specifically, the deep Günzian gravel over limestone marl provides natural drainage and radiant heat reflection. The 1993 season experienced a wet September, requiring extraordinary vigilance across all vineyard parcels. As a result, strict hand-harvesting and severe fruit triage eliminated any compromised grapes.
Meanwhile, the estate’s old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon vines demonstrated remarkable resilience. The deep roots absorbed essential nutrients while shedding excess surface rainwater naturally. Furthermore, the vineyard team sacrificed significant yield volume to ensure high phenolic ripeness in the Grand Vin. Thus, only pristine, concentrated fruit entered the historic cellars.
Vinification & Craftsmanship
In the winery, cellar master Patrick Léon managed vinification with uncompromising technical precision. First, the hand-picked fruit was sorted twice on vibrating tables before destemming. Subsequently, fermentation occurred in traditional large oak vats with careful temperature regulation. This measured extraction built fine-grained tannins while avoiding excessive astringency.
Moreover, the wine matured for roughly twenty months in 100% new French oak barriques. Mouton’s signature new oak regimen integrated gracefully with the wine’s cassis and spice core. Crucially, traditional egg-white fining and regular cask rackings clarified the wine naturally. Finally, the estate bottled the vintage into pristine glass and packed them into original wooden cases.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 1993 Mouton Rothschild displays a deep garnet hue with brick-red transitions. Immediately, the nose opens with expressive aromas of redcurrant, cassis, and dried rose petals. In addition, savory undertones of cedar cigar box, pencil lead, leather, and Asian spices emerge with air.
On the palate, the wine feels medium-bodied, lithe, and beautifully balanced. However, finely resolved tannins provide gentle structural grip beneath the core of red fruit and tobacco. Consequently, the finish extends with lingering notes of crushed stones, forest floor, and mocha. Ultimately, it delivers an aristocratic, classical First Growth tasting experience.

Service & Cellar Potential
Stand bottles upright for at least 24 hours prior to service to compact mature sediment. Specifically, decant the wine for 30 to 45 minutes prior to service to awaken its bouquet. Therefore, gentle aeration allows the delicate spice and cedar notes to expand completely.
Serve this mature First Growth between 16°C and 18°C (60°F–64°F) in large Bordeaux stemware. Pair it with roasted rack of lamb, duck breast with cherry reduction, or milk-fed veal chops. Furthermore, bottles from this pristine original case will drink magnificently through 2035+.
