Description

1991 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino: Rare Vintage Tuscan Artifact

The 1991 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 750ml is an exceedingly rare, library-aged collector artifact from Castelnuovo dell’Abate. In particular, Mastrojanni’s rocky, high-exposure soils allow Sangiovese Grosso to develop incredible natural structure and historic longevity. In addition, over three decades of careful cellar aging have transformed this wine into a study of mature tertiary complexity.

Tasting Notes for 1991 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino

The wine opens with delicate tertiary aromas of dried red cherry, leather, dried orange peel, tobacco, and dried roses. Furthermore, savory hints of forest mushrooms, iron minerality, and aged balsam emerge with patient decanting. On the palate, silky, fully resolved tannins carry a slender and savory frame of dried red fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with haunting Tuscan poise, savory freshness, and timeless grace.

Estate History and Heritage

Mastrojanni was founded in 1975 when visionary lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni purchased the San Pio estate in southern Montalcino. Specifically, he was among the first to prove that the warmer microclimate of Castelnuovo dell’Abate could produce world-class Sangiovese. Moreover, the estate remained faithful to traditional long aging in large Allier oak casks.

Today, Mastrojanni is universally revered among serious collectors as an uncompromising bastion of classic Brunello. As a result, this rare 1991 vintage represents a priceless link to the golden era of Tuscan fine wine history.
