2009 Agricola Punica Barrua: Sovereign Sardinian Carignano in Magnum
The 2009 Agricola Punica Barrua Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 1.5L Magnum stands as an opulent, mature masterwork born from a legendary Italian winemaking partnership. In particular, Barrua is crafted primarily from old-vine Carignano grown on sun-drenched, mineral-rich soils in the Sulcis region of southwest Sardinia. In addition, this generous 1.5L magnum format has permitted a glacially slow, pristine maturation process spanning over a decade.
Tasting Notes for 2009 Agricola Punica Barrua
The wine opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe black currant, dark plum compote, cigar box, and truffled earth. Furthermore, rich undertones of leather, game, graphite, cedar pencil, and smoked herbs unfold with aeration. On the palate, a full-bodied, velvety attack reveals generous dark-fruit depth supported by completely melted tannins and balanced acidity. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound savory warmth, sweet fruit purity, and classic Mediterranean poise.

Estate History and Heritage
Agricola Punica was established in 2002 as a visionary joint venture between Sebastiano Rosa, Cantina di Santadi, Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia), and legendary consulting enologist Giacomo Tachis. Specifically, Tachis recognized that the Sulcis terroir was ideal for producing a world-class grand vin based on old-vine Carignano. Moreover, aging in French oak barriques creates a wine celebrated for velvety Mediterranean power.
Today, mature magnums from the solar 2009 vintage represent the peak of aged Sardinian collecting. As a result, this bottle offers a magnificent centerpiece for celebratory feasts.
