2004 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve: Legendary Super Tuscan Imperial
The 2004 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT Rouge 6L Imperial (Methuselah) is an all-time classic collector masterpiece from Panzano. In particular, this cuvée comes from old vines planted in the galestro-dense soils of the famed Conca d’Oro. In addition, the celebrated 2004 vintage produced wines of monumental structural symmetry, refined fruit, and decades-long cellar resilience in this massive 6-liter format.
Tasting Notes for 2004 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve
The wine opens with mature aromas of black cherry, dark plum, cigar wrapper, dried herbs, and dark chocolate. Furthermore, complex notes of balsam, leather, and crushed Mediterranean macchia unfold gracefully with decanting. On the palate, silky, fully integrated tannins frame a concentrated core of mature dark berries. Consequently, the finish lingers with profound balance, savory spices, and enduring Tuscan grace.

Estate History and Heritage
Fontodi was acquired in 1968 by the Manetti family, who revitalized the estate to become an international benchmark of Tuscan wine. Specifically, Giovanni Manetti worked alongside consulting enologist Franco Bernabei to create Flaccianello in 1981. Moreover, the estate farms biodynamically, respecting the rich natural biodiversity of Panzano.
Today, large-format 6-liter bottles from 2004 are prized as ultimate historical centerpieces of modern Italian viticulture. As a result, this Imperial represents an essential acquisition for world-class collections.
