1987 Yvonne Verset Cornas: Historic Library Granite Artifact
The 1987 Yvonne Verset Cornas Rouge 750ml is an exceedingly rare, library-aged collector artifact from a legendary Northern Rhône winemaking family. In particular, the ancient Syrah vines clinging to the sheer granite slopes of Cornas endow the wine with historic cellar endurance. In addition, nearly four decades of careful cellar aging have transformed this wine into a study of mature tertiary complexity.
Tasting Notes for 1987 Yvonne Verset Cornas
The wine opens with delicate tertiary aromas of dried black cherry, leather, smoked bacon, black olive, and potpourri. Furthermore, delicate accents of sous-bois, dried orange peel, and white pepper reveal themselves with gentle aeration. On the palate, silky, fully resolved tannins carry a savory, slender frame of dried dark fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with haunting elegance, earthy minerality, and noble poise.

Estate History and Heritage
The Verset family holds a mythic, untouchable place in the history of Cornas. Specifically, Yvonne Verset worked alongside her relative Noël Verset, farming ancient, pre-phylloxera massale selection Syrah vines on sheer granite cliffs entirely by hand. Moreover, the wines were made with zero destemming, manual basket presses, and ancient wooden foudres.
Today, bottles from the Verset cellars are regarded as irreplaceable cultural artifacts of extinct French winemaking. As a result, this 1987 library release represents a holy grail acquisition for serious Rhône collectors.
