1987 Château Duhart-Milon: Historic Pauillac Grand Cru Magnum
The 1987 Château Duhart-Milon Pauillac Rouge 1.5L Magnum is an exceedingly rare, library-aged fourth growth from the Lafite Rothschild portfolio. In particular, Duhart-Milon sits directly adjacent to Château Lafite Rothschild on the fine gravel and limestone hills of Pauillac. In addition, the magnum format has protected this mature Bordeaux, allowing it to develop tertiary grace over decades.
Tasting Notes for 1987 Château Duhart-Milon
The wine opens with mature aromas of dried black cherry, pencil shavings, cigar wrapper, worn leather, and autumn leaves. Furthermore, nuanced notes of black tea, forest floor, and dried herbs evolve with gentle decanting. On the palate, silky, fully integrated tannins support a slender, savory core of dried dark fruits. Consequently, the finish lingers with classic Pauillac grip, stony minerality, and noble Left Bank poise.

Estate History and Heritage
Château Duhart-Milon was classified as a Fourth Growth in the historic 1855 Bordeaux classification. Specifically, the estate entered a golden era after being acquired by the Rothschild family of Château Lafite Rothschild in 1962. Moreover, the Lafite team completely renovated the vineyard drainage and replanted the vines to Lafite’s exacting standards.
Today, Duhart-Milon is revered as one of the purest and most classical expressions in Pauillac. As a result, this 1987 magnum serves as a rare, historical artifact of mature Médoc craft.
