Description

2020 Jean-François Ganevat Cuvée Julien: Jura Pinot Noir Magnum

The 2020 Domaine Jean-François Ganevat Cuvée Julien Côtes du Jura Rouge 1.5L Magnum is an exceedingly rare, cult-status natural wine. In particular, this cuvée comes from old Pinot Noir vines planted in 1977 on red marl and gravel soils in Rotalier. In addition, the sunny 2020 vintage yielded superb fruit concentration balanced by electric alpine freshness in the magnum format.

Tasting Notes for 2020 Jean-François Ganevat Cuvée Julien

The wine opens with vibrant aromas of wild raspberry, tart red cherry, pomegranate, rose hips, and forest floor. Furthermore, delicate accents of blood orange zest, wet river stones, and white pepper develop in the glass. On the palate, silky, lacy tannins wrap around an energetic core of fresh red berries. Consequently, the finish lingers with mouthwatering tension, saline minerality, and pure floral lift.

Estate History and Heritage

The Ganevat family has farmed vineyards in the southern Jura village of Rotalier since 1650. Specifically, Jean-François “Fanfan” Ganevat returned to the estate in 1998 after honing his skills at Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet. Moreover, he eliminated all added sulfur and embraced biodynamics, managing dozens of micro-cuvées separately.

Today, Ganevat is universally hailed as an avant-garde legend of the global natural wine movement. As a result, this Cuvée Julien magnum represents an irreplaceable treasure of unadulterated artisanal craft.
