2009 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin La Landonne: Monumental Côte-Rôtie

The 2009 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin La Landonne Côte-Rôtie Rouge 750ml represents an elite, 100-point-caliber Northern Rhône masterpiece. In particular, this flagship cuvée originates from the iron-rich, dark schist slopes of the famed La Landonne lieu-dit. In addition, the solar and legendary 2009 harvest produced monumental fruit concentration, massive structure, and decades of cellar life.

Tasting Notes for 2009 Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin La Landonne

The wine opens with voluptuous aromas of blackcurrant, crème de cassis, smoked bacon, espresso bean, and black olive. Furthermore, mature tertiary layers of leather, black truffle, cracked pepper, and crushed graphite unfold with decanting. On the palate, immense, velvety tannins wrap around a deeply concentrated core of dark fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with extraordinary length, warming spice, and noble power.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin was founded in 1983 in Ampuis, becoming an essential leader of the modern Côte-Rôtie revival. Specifically, Jean-Michel acquired treasured plots on La Landonne and planted them with low-yielding, massale-selection Syrah vines. Moreover, his approach emphasized small-batch barrel aging to soften the ferocious tannins of the Côte Brune.

Today, his sons Michaël and Alexis bring renewed precision to this benchmark estate. As a result, this 2009 La Landonne represents an absolute summit of mature Northern Rhône greatness.
