Description

2011 Domaine Tempier Tourtine: Regal Provençal Structure

The 2011 Domaine Tempier Tourtine Bandol Rouge 750ml is a collector icon that displays the majestic longevity of Mourvèdre. In particular, the La Tourtine parcel crowns a breezy, sun-drenched hill of pure limestone above the village of Le Castellet. In addition, the balanced 2011 harvest allowed the grapes to achieve intense savory complexity alongside ripe, firm structure.

Tasting Notes for 2011 Domaine Tempier Tourtine

The wine opens with deep tertiary aromas of dried blackberry, dark plum, leather, garrigue, and black olive. Furthermore, complex hints of smoked meats, sandalwood, dark chocolate, and iron emerge with aeration. On the palate, muscular, dense tannins have softened into a broad and savory frame of dark forest fruit. Consequently, the finish lingers with enduring warmth, stony minerality, and noble rustic depth.

Estate History and Heritage

Domaine Tempier is the world-renowned historic benchmark of fine Bandol winemaking. Specifically, Lucien Peyraud and his beloved wife Lulu revitalized the ancient estate in the 1940s, cementing Bandol’s worldwide acclaim. Moreover, the estate was among the true pioneers in southern France to vinify and bottle specific terroir parcels separately.

Today, the Peyraud family maintains traditional farming methods and aging in large oak foudres. As a result, this mature 2011 Tourtine demonstrates the aristocratic ageworthiness of benchmark Mourvèdre.
