The Release
A New Chapter for Día de Muertos
As the crisp autumn air settles in this October and we look toward the first days of November, the tequila world is buzzing with anticipation. For collectors and aficionados of Mexican luxury, the annual Clase Azul Día de Muertos release is a highly awaited event.
If you’ve been following Clase Azul over the last few years, you know that 2025 marked the grand finale of their beloved “Nuestros Recuerdos” series. Now, as we approach the 2026 celebrations, the brand is turning the page. According to the official release details, this year introduces a brand-new chapter for their Día de Muertos creations, moving away from multi-year series to focus on singular, standalone masterpieces.
The first of this new era? Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos Edición Limitada Trascender.
The Theme
Trascender (To Transcend)
Día de Muertos is rooted in the beautiful indigenous belief that life does not end; it transforms. It is a time when memory, love and ritual bridge the gap between generations.
“Trascender” captures exactly this — evoking the soul’s transcendental journey into the divine realm to join the Sun’s everlasting energy.
The Decanter
A Masterpiece in a Bottle
The decanter alone is a work of profound artistic storytelling. The ceramic glaze shifts dramatically from a deep blue to a vibrant magenta — a color inspired by the mano de león blossom, traditionally used to adorn ofrendas (altars).
At the base, artisans have hand-painted an intricate floral composition symbolizing the petal-strewn paths meant to guide returning souls. From these flowers, breathtaking 24-karat gold brushstrokes ascend the bottle, representing the soul’s luminous journey to the Sun.
Flanking the center are two marigolds, signifying the soul in active transformation between the physical and spiritual realms. Every tiny skull, delicate droplet and signature feathered brushstroke honors the duality of life and death.
The Liquid
A Champagne-Finished Masterclass
Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco has crafted an exceptionally unique añejo blend for “Trascender.” The tequila balances profound maturity with delicate freshness, utilizing two distinct añejos, both aged for over 30 months.
While one añejo rests in American whiskey casks to develop a bold, toasted character, the true magic lies in the second añejo, which is finished in casks that once held Champagne. This imparts the subtle magic of autolysis — the process where leftover yeast (lees) enriches the liquid, bringing out warm, buttery aromas of toasted walnuts and sourdough bread.
Tinoco draws a beautiful parallel between this process and the holiday itself:
“By finishing our tequila in casks that once held Champagne, what once existed continues to shape the present… Together, they give rise to a spirit that celebrates a permanence that transcends time.”
— Viridiana Tinoco, Master Distiller
