Overview & Provenance
The 2008 Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie is a mature, refined single-vineyard Northern Rhône red from a cool vintage. Produced from ancient Syrah and Viognier vines on the terraced slopes of the Côte Blonde, this cuvée highlights elegance and aromatics. As a result, it delivers a delicate, nuanced profile prized by traditional fine wine enthusiasts.
The cool 2008 harvest required meticulous sorting, producing wines with lively natural acidity and lower alcohol. In addition, nearly four years of oak aging combined with long bottle maturation have integrated the structure completely. Therefore, this bottle displays tertiary complexity, red fruit freshness, and silken tannins.
Tasting Profile & Sensory Character
- Aromatics: First, aromas of dried red cherries, cranberries, and potpourri rise from the glass. Soon after, mature notes of leather, smoked bacon, white pepper, and forest earth unfold.
- Palate: In addition, the palate is medium-bodied, silky, and energetic across the tongue. Resolved tannins carry savory notes of tart red fruit and graphite across a clean, lingering finish.
Service & Culinary Pairings
Serving Suggestions: First, pour at 58°F–62°F (14°C–17°C). Next, decant gently for 20 to 30 minutes to protect its delicate older bouquet.
Recommended Pairings: Because of its resolved tannins and bright acidity, this mature Syrah matches subtle meats:
- Pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction
- Roast squab or quail with wild mushrooms
- Pan-roasted veal chops with rosemary butter
- Classic French beef Bourguignon
Collector Notes & Cellar Potential
The 2008 La Mouline has reached full maturity after years of patient cellaring. It provides immediate enjoyment and will hold its graceful form through 2032.
