Description

2002 Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Description

2002 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 750ml is a rare and collectible Northern Rhône red wine from one of Maison E. Guigal’s most famous single-vineyard bottlings. La Mouline comes from the heart of the Côte Blonde and is celebrated for its perfume, silky texture, floral character, and exceptional elegance.

This wine is produced from 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier. The Viognier adds aromatic lift and floral character, while Syrah provides structure, dark fruit, spice, and depth. Together, they create the distinctive style that has made La Mouline one of the most sought-after wines of Côte-Rôtie.

The vineyard is planted on steep terraces shaped like a Roman amphitheater. The vines average approximately 100 years of age, contributing concentration, complexity, and a strong expression of the Côte Blonde terroir.

During production, the wine undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation with traditional pumping over and approximately five weeks of maceration. It is then aged for around 40 months in new oak barrels, adding polish, spice, structure, and depth.

The 2002 Guigal La Mouline now offers mature collector appeal. It may show red berries, blackberry, violet, dried flowers, spice, leather, savory herbs, polished oak, earth, and developed Northern Rhône complexity.

Why Collectors Want 2002 Guigal La Mouline

2002 Guigal La Mouline has strong collector appeal because La Mouline is one of the most recognized and coveted wines in Côte-Rôtie. Maison Guigal produces only small quantities from this historic Côte Blonde vineyard.

The combination of very old vines, Syrah and Viognier, long maceration, extended new-oak aging, and limited production gives La Mouline a distinctive identity among the great wines of the Northern Rhône.

The 2002 vintage now has substantial bottle age, making it especially attractive for collectors seeking mature Guigal La Mouline, aged Côte-Rôtie, rare Rhône wine, and collectible French red wine.

Serving Recommendation

Serve around 60–64°F. Stand the bottle upright before opening so sediment can settle. Because this is a mature wine, decant gently only if needed to separate sediment. Avoid excessive air exposure and allow the wine to open gradually in the glass.

Food Pairing

Pair with pheasant, partridge, roasted duck, lamb, venison, beef, mushroom dishes, truffle preparations, aged cheeses, and classic French cuisine.

Buyer Note

Because this is a mature collectible wine, buyers should review provenance, storage history, fill level, cork condition, capsule condition, label condition, bottle condition, and overall presentation before purchase.
